The trade division of Kaplan Publishing offers an unpaid Acquisitions Editorial Internship for rising juniors and seniors during the spring and summer semesters. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain experience in a fast paced and growing publishing company in New York City. Interns are required to work at least 16 hours per week, and MUST receive academic credit for the internship.
Intern tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
? Assist editors with various trade nonfiction projects in the categories of memoir/biography, health/medical, education, criminal justice, law, and more.
? Conduct market and competitive research by reviewing online booksellers' websites; compiling market information from statistical research databases; finding information on professional association websites, etc.
? General office tasks, such as photocopying, data entry, filing, and mail distribution.

? Excellent oral and written communication skills.
? English or Communications major preferred, but not required.
? Strong attention to detail.
? Ability to multi-task.
? Microsoft Office proficiency.
? Proofreading/editing experience and familiarity with MACs are pluses.
? Research skills.
? Presentation skills.
? Understanding of acquisitions and publishing process.
? Ability to identify the market for a book.
? Ability to position a title for a competitive advantage.
With the assistance of acquisitions editors, interns will also gain experience in researching, writing, and presenting an original book proposal for publishing consideration.
