Reader’s Digest Association (RDA) is committed to building the next generation of talent, and key to our strategy is our internship program. As a worldwide leader in multi-platform media and direct-to-consumer marketing, we have 200+ professionals in our Milwaukee office that can offer robust and engaging learning opportunities to top students in the Midwest.

We are seeking high-potential students interested in career-building opportunities in a fast paced and competitive environment. In turn, we provide interns relevant real-life business experience through short-term projects that support key business initiatives and contribute to our products. You will also gain exposure to RDA's global organization through meetings where you will interact with business professionals, internal industry experts and senior executives throughout the summer.

The RDA summer internship program is open to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year. All internships are credit-based (unpaid). To be considered for this program, students will be asked to provide proper documentation from their school program.

Position Description

Graphic Design Intern/Editorial - Brands include:

•Taste of Home
•Simple & Delicious / Healthy Cooking

You will work with artists and editors on the design and development process for major print products including magazines and books. Depending on the brand you could be selected for, you will also gain exposure to photo selection/research for publication, participating in photo shoots in our in-house studio and contributing to cover design. You will also learn color correction and color markup methods, how to properly prep files/images for the premedia process in preparation to send files to our printer. Additional projects and duties will be assigned as necessary.

Creative Marketing Production Artist - This internship reports to the design manager, and will work with the creative staff of artists and copywriters as they progress a marketing idea from concept to completion. You will assist with graphic art projects for these print direct-marketing pieces, learning how to work under strict deadlines to revise 'jobs,' prepare files to send to premedia and our print vendors, follow style guides and proofreading symbols, ensuring pieces meet postal requirements. There will also be the opportunity to participate in brainstorm sessions to devise new ideas to support and enhance the goals of the creative marketing department.
Length of Internship: Summer 2012 Term
Requirements: •Currently enrolled in a graphic design or fine arts program entering junior or senior year
•Marketing/Advertising minor is a plus for creative marketing internship
•Strong working knowledge of Mac-based graphics software, including Indesign, QuarkXPress, Illustrator and PhotoShop
•Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
•Strong attention to detail
•Ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize
•Respect and appreciation for the brands and their respective target demographics
•You must submit 3 samples of design work along with resume for consideration or include a link to your online portfolio; samples should demonstrate your layout skills blending images and copy
