Reader’s Digest Association (RDA) is committed to building the next generation of talent, and key to our strategy is our internship program. As a worldwide leader in multi-platform media and direct-to-consumer marketing, we have 200+ professionals in our Milwaukee office that can offer robust and engaging learning opportunities to top students in the Midwest.

We are seeking high-potential students interested in career-building opportunities in a fast paced and competitive environment. In turn, we provide interns relevant real-life business experience through short-term projects that support key business initiatives and contribute to our products. You will also gain exposure to RDA's global organization through meetings where you will interact with business professionals, internal industry experts and senior executives throughout the summer.

The RDA summer internship program is open to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year. All internships are credit-based (unpaid). To be considered for this program, students will be asked to provide proper documentation from their school program.

Position Description

Editorial SEO Assistant - Under the direction of our web editors and digital business team, this internship provides an opportunity to learn how to drive traffic to our consumer websites through the use of SEO principles and best-practices. You will learn how to write keyword rich content for search-engine optimization. Students applying should demonstrate a strong interest in journalism/advertising/marketing and digital media field.

Reporting to the Digital Editor for our enthusiast brands, the Digital Intern will use social media to increase awareness for all of the above listed brands. Opportunities include researching social media best practices on competitive sites and playing a role in increasing the brands' social media efforts on Wordpress, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterset. You will also learn SEO principles and best practices to assist in the execution of the digital strategy for these brands. Students applying should demonstrate a strong interest in digital communications, journalism or a similar field.

Editorial (Writing) Intern - Brands include:

Our Editorial Internships allow interns to become part of a team and have an inside role in the editorial process of our magazines and books. Interns will see the roadmap process of an entire print magazine issue/book from concept to production as well as prepare materials for Web use. Responsibilities may include reviewing, evaluating, editing, and rewriting material submitted by readers; follow-up on potential feature stories (contacting subject, requesting photos, conducting phone interviews). Also, writing “romance copy,' proofreading for accuracy, finding stock photos to illustrate poems, articles. File maintenance/organization and other tasks to assist the editorial team may also be included. Students applying should be a Journalism or English major; strong writing skills required.

Copywriting/Advertising Writer Intern - The Copywriter Internship provide hands-on experience working on real marketing projects in a busy, fast-paced environment/ In return you will learn how to write a call-to-action, and factually correct, benefit-oriented copy that aligns with our brands. You will work with a skilled creative staff (artists and writers) and see the creative process from concept stage to execution. Responsibilities include working on direct marketing copy assignments that include direct mail efforts in both print and digital media. You will learn how to meet deadlines by stewarding projects through to completion, and gain and apply insights learned through in-house training on digital publishing and promotion. Students applying should demonstrate a strong interest in marketing and/or advertising writing, majoring in journalism or a writing focused program.

Length of Internship: Summer 2012 Term
Requirements: •Must be enrolled and entering junior or senior year
•See each specific internship for major best suited to that internship
•Strong communication skills; interpersonal and written
•Strong computer skills, Mac experience preferred
•Strong multitasking and organizational skills
•Ability to take direction from several editors/managers
•Respect and appreciation for the brands and their respective target demographics
•You must submit 3 published clips along with resume or include a link to your online portfolio for consideration. If you do not have published clips, chose samples that best demonstrate your writing ability. Only students meeting this requirement will be given consideration.
