Reader’s Digest Association (RDA) is committed to building the next generation of talent, and key to our strategy is our internship program. As a worldwide leader in multi-platform media and direct-to-consumer marketing, we have 200+ professionals in our Milwaukee office that can offer robust and engaging learning opportunities to top students in the Midwest.

We are seeking high-potential students interested in career-building opportunities in a fast paced and competitive environment. In turn, we provide interns relevant real-life business experience through short-term projects that support key business initiatives and contribute to our products. You will also gain exposure to RDA's global organization through meetings where you will interact with business professionals, internal industry experts and senior executives throughout the summer.

The RDA summer internship program is open to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year. All internships are credit-based (unpaid). To be considered for this program, students will be asked to provide proper documentation from their school program.

Our creative marketing department is our 'in-house' agency that works with internal clients to provide direct-marketing collateral for print and digital marketing efforts that promote our products and grow circulation. These internships are listed under disciplines as well and include:

Position Description

Copywriting/Advertising Writer Intern - The Copywriter Internship provide hands-on experience working on real marketing projects in a busy, fast-paced environment/ In return you will learn how to write a call-to-action, and factually correct, benefit-oriented copy that aligns with our brands. You will work with a skilled creative staff (artists and writers) and see the creative process from concept stage to execution. Responsibilities include working on direct marketing copy assignments that include direct mail efforts in both print and digital media. You will learn how to meet deadlines by stewarding projects through to completion, and gain and apply insights learned through in-house training on digital publishing and promotion. Students applying should demonstrate a strong interest in marketing and/or advertising writing, majoring in journalism or a writing focused program.

Web Design Internship - This internship reports directly to our Digital Creative Director and works with the team responsible for our digital marketing efforts to grow our brands and their circulation. You will create, manipulate, enhance and maintain graphics for digital marketing efforts including email, order pages, confirmation pages and website graphics. In addition you will assist with some limited HTML/CSS coding of email, ads and landing pages.

Production Artist - This internship reports to the design manager, and will work with the creative staff of artists and copywriters as they progress a marketing idea from concept to completion. You will assist with graphic art projects for these print direct-marketing pieces, learning how to work under strict deadlines to revise 'jobs,' prepare files to send to premedia and our print vendors, follow style guides and proofreading symbols, ensuring pieces meet postal requirements. There will also be the opportunity to participate in brainstorm sessions to devise new ideas to support and enhance the goals of the creative marketing department.

Length of Internship: Summer 2012 Term
Requirements: Copywriting/Advertising Writer Intern -
•You must be enrolled entering your junior or senior year
•Journalism or English majors required, but Communications, Advertising, and Marketing minors are a plus
•Strong writing, editing, multitasking, and organizational skills required
•Strong Microsoft Word experience required, Quark experience a plus
•Respect and appreciation for the brands and their respective target demographics
•You must submit 3 published clips along with resume or include a link to your online portfolio for consideration. If you do not have published clips, chose samples that best demonstrate your writing ability. Only students meeting this requirement will be given consideration.

Web Design Internship -
•Currently enrolled in web design, digital marketing, digital advertising or related program entering junior or senior year
•Demonstrated web design experience (student or professional capacity)
•Demonstrated experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Fireworks
•Working knowledge of XHTML, CSS and tableless based code
•Basic email and/or website production
•Good written/verbal communication skills
•You must submit three samples of your design work (class-related or professional) for consideration.
•Links to sites in cover letter are preferred; attachments of site images will be accepted.

Production Artist -
•Currently enrolled in graphic design entering junior or senior year; marketing/advertising minor is a plus
•Working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop in a Macintosh environment
•Ability to manage multiple projects at any given time, and move between proficiently
•Attention to detail
•You must submit three samples of your design work (class-related or professional) or a link to an online portfolio for consideration.
