Have you ever wandered into a bookstore with the intention of picking up a particular book? How did that book come under your radar? Chances are, there was marketing involved. Book marketing is all of the behind-the-scenes stuff that connects a reader to a book. More than just advertising, book marketing includes: creating advance reading copies; outreach to booksellers, librarians, and professors; pitches to reviewers, TV and radio producers for coverage; attendance at tradeshows; book giveaways on blogs and Twitter; and many other activities. As the Consortium Marketing Intern, you will learn about the creative, innovative (and yes, cheap!) ways an independent publisher markets their books.
Projects Include but are not limited to:
Attend presales and new publisher visits
Attend meetings: social media planning, digital marketing, hot title, and monthly sales & marketing company meetings
Assist with writing the weekly marketing newsletters to booksellers and librarians
Assist with mailing list development
Assist with e-book marketing research and application, as this area of publishing is quickly growing
Assist with social media outreach, including weekly #indieview Tweet Chats
Assist with digital marketing initiatives (such as iPhone apps)
Assist with library and academic marketing
Immediate Supervisor: Marketing Manager
Availability: 4-6 months; Time requirement: 12-15 hours per week

|Requirements:||Requirements of the position include:
Curiosity about publishing and a love of books
Strong personal initiative & the ability/willingness to work independently & ask a lot of questions
Willingness to work with several departments on multiple projects
Ability to organize and prioritize work, and to meet deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office: Word & Excel
