Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Description: Umbrage Editions seeks 2-3 highly-qualified college students or recent graduates to intern at our office and gallery space located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Editorial internships vary depending on each individual's interests and strengths, but include tasks such as research and writing, copy-editing, caption or flap copy creation, blogging, assisting with promotion and outreach for our books and exhibitions, general office work, and occasional errands. This internship is a unique opportunity for someone to gain experience in both book publishing and in the art world.

Interns must be willing and able to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. We require a minimum commitment of 2 days per week for three months.

Umbrage is an award-winning independent art publisher located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Our books often have a focus on political topics or human rights issues.
Length of Internship: Fall Semester
Requirements: Umbrage offers internships to highly qualified college students or recent graduates. We require a commitment of a minimum of two full days per week during the spring and fall semesters (preference to those who can give more time).

Editorial internship responsibilities include general writing, caption and flap copy creation, copyediting assignments, research, and general administration tasks. Excellent writing, researching, and editing skills required. Proofreading experience is desirable.

Because we are a fairly non-hierarchical space, we expect that everyone will pitch in to use his or her special skills. All internships involve a wide variety of activities, including library and other research on new titles, printing and production liaison, as well as general office work, including phone and computer tasks and errands. Interns must be willing and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Ideal candidates will have excellent writing, researching, editing, and organizational skills; be comfortable on the phone; be interested in current affairs, art, photography, human rights, publishing, Web sites, museum work or marketing; and will be energetic and eager to jump feet-first into chaos.
Location: 111 Front Street #208 Brooklyn, NY 11201
Payment: Unpaid; College Credit is Available
How To Apply For This Internship: Please e-mail a cover letter to telling us a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in publishing, along with a resume.
