Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Description: This is a terrific opportunity to learn about two distinct but pivotal areas of publishing: publicity and subsidiary and foreign rights. You will learn everything from how to pitch over the phone and via e-mail to contacting foreign agents or publishers and sending out sample books or follow-up e-mails.
Length of Internship: I'd prefer someone who wants to work for both semesters but if necessary, just for either Fall or Spring
Requirements: For credit only; A non-disclosure agreement; Excellent writing, time management, people, and selling skills; Attention to detail; Enthusiasm about publishing and books; Superb follow-up skills, e.g. if you have to do something, you make sure it gets done rather than just put it aside in an incomplete state
Location: At least two but ideally three days a week on-site at the company in Westport, Connecticut, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and possibly more hours off-site (It might be possible to split the position up and have two different interns.)
Application Due Date: Applications will be accepted for the next semester until the position(s) is filled
Payment: For credit only
How To Apply For This Internship: Contact me personally: Please send a well-written and SUCCINCT cover letter along with your resume within your e-mail. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY ATTACHMENTS. In your e-mail, discuss where you attend school and what you are majoring in, why you are interested in this internship, what you hope to learn, your future career plans, any skills that you have that will help you with the various tasks related to the internship. (Since the internship requires working on-site 1-3 days, you should either live in the vicinity of Westport, Connecticut or be willing to commute from NYC or any other location where you attend college.) Include your contact information including e-mail and phone and PLEASE BE PATIENT till you hear a reply to your application.
