Description: Kaplan Publishing is one of the nation's leading education publishers. We produce approximately 200 new books a year, including narrative nonfiction and memoirs in the legal, medical, and nursing categories. Kaplan Publishing is a unit of Kaplan, Inc., a subsidiary of the Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO).

Kaplan Publishing offers an unpaid spring, summer and fall internship for rising juniors and seniors for college credit. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain experience in business development in the publishing industry. This is a project-based internship where the Business Development Intern will assist in initiating, communicating, managing, and executing publishing ventures both internally within Kaplan and externally with outside partners. Interns are required to work at least 16 hours per week.

Intern tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
? Assist with various projects, such as drafting project plans, gathering details for promotional opportunities, and matching up content ideas to subject matter experts from in-house resources.
? Assist with online research and work with editorial on innovative ways to promote content.
? Assist on idea generation and work with marketing to maximizing publishing opportunities.
? Assist on brainstorming on networking and outside partnership opportunities.
? Regularly read relevant blogs and other online media to understand and react to competitive landscape.

Length of Internship: 2009 Spring, Summer, or Fall College Semesters
Requirements: Skills Required:
? Excellent oral and written communication skills
? Strong online research skills
? Ability to contribute to multiple projects on any given day
? Ability to work with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word documents
? Desire to learn about the editorial, communications, and marketing departments of a publishing division as well as their counterparts in a large and growing education company
