First Book currently reaches an average of 5 million children every year and supports more than a third of the estimated 1.3 million classrooms and programs serving children in need.

With an additional 1,000 educators joining First Book’s Network each week, we have the largest and fastest-growing network of educators in the United States exclusively serving kids in need. First Book members work in classrooms, after school, and summer or early childhood programs, shelters and health clinics, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and other settings serving a majority of children in need.

About the Internship
First Book has an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurial individuals who share a passion for our mission, have a wide array of personal qualities and talents, and possess superior written and verbal communication skills. A good match for this position will be someone with a nonprofit heart and a corporate mindset; someone who is collaborative and independent, thrives in a fast-paced environment, is flexible, and has a sense of humor.

A Successful intern will have the following skills/experience:
-Assist in achieving the revenue goals of the organization and should possess superior writing, research and interpersonal skills.
-Provide support for the full range of fundraising activities, including prospect research, individual giving, direct mail, and special events.

Cool projects you will work on:
-Direct mail logistics for our largest campaign of the year
-Prospect research on foundation funders and individual philanthropists
-Helping us launch an outreach campaign for our organizational endowment
-Donor relations interactions and follow up
-Create blog posts about our fundraising campaigns and major donors
-Development best practice training for volunteer fundraisers across the country

What you will learn:
-Individual giving fundraising (annual fund and major donors)
-Foundation fundraising
-Campaign project management
-Volunteer management
Length of Internship: Fall Semester
Location: Washington, D.C.

Payment: **In addition to an hourly wage, First Book will pay commuting costs throughout the internship**
