Since 1992, First Book has distributed more than 225 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income communities in all 50 states and provinces in Canada. First Book currently reaches an average of 5 million children every year and supports more than a third of the estimated 1.3 million classrooms and programs serving children in need.

With an additional 1,000 educators joining First Book’s Network each week, we have the largest and fastest-growing network of educators in the United States exclusively serving kids in need. First Book members work in classrooms, after school, and summer or early childhood programs, shelters and health clinics, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and other settings serving a majority of children in need.

About the Internship
First Book has an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurial individuals who share a passion for our mission, and possess superior written and verbal communication skills

A Successful intern will have many of the following skills/experience:
-Ability and desire to write and copyedit content, both creating original pieces and updating previously produced materials
-Experience with WordPress and basic HTML skills, knowledge of basic SEO best practices preferred
-Research and data analysis skills with the ability to synthesize and paraphrase findings
Strong organizational skills and attention to details to help maintain consistent updates across all digital platforms, both internal and external
-Knowledge of media outreach, pitch writing, media list development and tracking media coverage
-Experience designing in Canva
-Willingness and resourcefulness to jump into projects, with guidance from staff
-Social media content creation — including writing content, creating images, and editing videos
-Open communication style where you feel comfortable interacting across teams and staff

Cool projects you will work on:
-Partnership support for companies like LEGO, Audemars Piguet, Pizza Hut, New York Life Foundation, and many more
-Corporate positioning and branding projects for First Book
-National media pitches and press releases
-First Book content marketing + blog writing
-First Book social media accounts

-Content marketing and SEO best practices
-Media outreach and story pitch process
-Reporting and marketing data analysis
-Branding + corporate positioning best practices
-Social media management + best practices
Length of Internship: Fall Semester
Location: Washington, D.C.
