Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: The college division at W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a summer intern to assist with editorial projects in the college Astronomy department. The internship will offer insight into the editorial, marketing, sales, and digital media development aspects of educational publishing. Tasks will vary, but will include
• assisting with preparation of manuscripts and electronic ancillary materials
• editing blog posts and expanding social media reach
• applying strong knowledge of social media to creative projects
• researching schools and instructors for review programs as well as market research.
• researching and cataloguing photos, art, and other digital assets
• testing products ranging from PowerPoint slides to video games
• data entry in Excel and other day-to-day office duties, such as scanning and formatting documents and manuscripts, and light administrative tasks
• knowledge of Mac OS, Windows OS, and Microsoft Word is required
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Ideal candidates are detail-oriented and organized, able to work independently in an office environment, and interested in learning about college publishing. Knowledge of astronomy is not required but is appreciated. Intern should have strong editorial skills, research skills, and a firm familiarity with social media. Specific hours are flexible, but interns must be available to work 3-4 days for a total of 20 hours per week over a three-month period. College juniors, seniors, and recent graduates preferred.
