Company Name: SKYBOUND
Description: Do you have an interest in international business? Do you have a passion for organization? Are you fascinated by the global book publishing industry? Do exchange rates, royalties calculations, and databases make your heart race? Is your filing technique unstoppable?

We are a literary agency with close ties to the entertainment industry, specializing in comics. We are looking for a subsidiary rights intern to assist with our growing niche business. Our focus is print and e-books foreign rights licensing.

This position provides rare hand-on, behind-the-scenes experience in the publishing and comic book industries and is a fantastic learning experience. Diversity candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Duties will include:

o Process, record, and analyze royalty report and sales data (including employing conversion rates for foreign currency) using our cloud-based customized rights management software;

o Research and contact potential licensees, developing tailored pitch presentations, focusing on back catalogue titles;

o Research and create seasonal rights catalogues;

o Develop items for monthly newsletter, including comics headline news and other relevant data for sales;

o Assemble and input copyright and genre information for titles both old and new;

o Maintaining and augmenting our international editions library

Many of these tasks are extremely teachable and very specialized, so we do not expect you to know how to do most of these things. In case it’s not obvious, this involves reading a ton of comics.
Length of Internship: 4-5 weeks, with opportunity to extend
Requirements: Must be able to receive academic credit for the internship.

• Qualified candidates are interested in the business side of book publishing who are very organized and detail-oriented. If you’re more interested in working in the entertainment industry, or international business generally, this isn’t the internship for you.
• High level of comfort with database data entry and excellent Excel skills.
• The ability to multitask and prioritize projects is crucial, and you should also be comfortable interacting with various departments and foreign publishers to gather information as necessary.
• Must be able to work independently.
• You should be able to handle confidential information and be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
• Foreign languages skills are not necessary - but business level fluency of another language is a plus. A passion for comic books is pretty much a given.
