|Description:||Nation Books, a project of the Nation Institute and an imprint of the Perseus Books Group, is hiring a summer intern. The imprint's mission is to produce authoritative books that break new ground and shed light on current social and political issues. Recently published books include Scott Horton's Lords of Secrecy, David Goldblatt's Game of Our Lives, and Ralph Nader's Unstoppable.
The intern will gain hands-on experience and learn many of the ins and outs of the publishing industry. Flexibility, the ability to remain calm under pressure, attention to detail, strong organizational ability, computer skills, and social media literacy required. Primary tasks include: reviewing book proposals, taking part in production meetings, providing editorial assistance, updating a title management database, helping with general program support and public events, performing various administrative duties, and assisting with social media.
The internship is full time, five days a week. The Summer 2015 session begins June 2 and ends September 4(though the exact end date is flexible), and the postmark deadline for applications is March 2.

|Payment:||The intern will be paid an hourly wage and provided an Unlimited Metrocard or equivalent reimbursement if he or she takes other mode of transportation. Whenever possible, The Nation Institute will assist interns in arranging for academic or work-study credit. Housing and travel grants are available to those who need them in order to do the internship.|
|How To Apply For This Internship:||In order to apply, please send a cover letter indicating your interest in Nation Books and describing your career goals. In addition, include a resume, two letters of recommendation (at least one non-academic), and one writing sample. Letters may be mailed directly by recommenders, or may be included with the rest of your application materials. For writing samples, published clips are preferred, though academic papers and creative writing samples are acceptable (no longer than eight pages, please). Your application must be postmarked by the application deadline.

The internship is part of the Victor S. Navasky internship Program, which also offers position with The Nation magazine and the Institute's Investigative Fund.
