Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Description: Created in 2000, Susanna Lea Associates has offices in Paris, New York, and London. Focusing on a small number of authors and projects, we are content managers. Our aim is to work in close collaboration with authors and publishers in order to maximize the potential of each project both domestically and in translation—in print, audio, and digital media—and, when applicable, for audiovisual adaptations.

This internship will offer the right candidate exposure to all aspects of the world of international literary agenting and publishing, from initial manuscript development to final publication. It’s a small office, so there’s an opportunity to be involved in and exposed to all aspects of the business. You’ll read a lot, write a lot, and learn a lot about publishing, especially foreign rights.

Responsibilities include:
-reading and responding to solicited and unsolicited submissions,
-editing/copyediting commissioned translations,
-helping to prepare manuscripts for submission (includes creating pitch letters and presentations, researching potential editors, editing manuscripts, and keeping track of offers and rejections)
-scheduling agent meetings for international book fairs,
-office and administrative work as needed

We can be flexible with schedules, but are looking for a commitment of 2-3 days per week.
Requirements: Junior, senior, or recent grad, preferably majoring in English, French, or a related field. Must love books of all kinds! Proficiency in French required (able to answer phone, emails), fluency preferred. We are looking for someone thoughtful, personable, organized, and proactive. Must be a strong reader, writer, and editor. Should have some experience in a professional environment; basic familiarity with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) recommended.
Location: New York, NY
Application Due Date: Rolling.
Payment: Weekly stipend and subway fare reimbursed.
