|Company Name:||FEMINIST PRESS AT CUNY|
|Description:||The Feminist Press is looking for dynamic, talented, and hardworking interns for the Fall 2013 season. We need interns who are self-starters, eager to learn, and passionate about contributing to our mission of creating books that promote freedom of expression and social justice.
The Feminist Press is an independent, nonprofit publishing house based in Manhattan with a small, dedicated staff. Founded with an activist spirit and a belief in choice and equality, we publish books that tell different stories than what you will find with most mainstream publishers. Visit feministpress.org to become more familiar with our catalog.
Interns gain solid experience in all aspects of publishing and work closely with the staff in each department: editorial, publicity, marketing, and development.
reviewing unsolicited submissions
writing press releases
sending out review copies of books
submitting books for awards
updating our website and social media accounts
working on internet marketing campaigns
identifying new donors
assisting with fundraising events and book launch parties
general office management and mailing duties
We seek individuals willing to bring professionalism, dedication, strong multitasking and communication skills, a commitment to equality, and a good attitude to the office. Interns work closely with one another so a willingness to collaborate and share responsibilities is essential. Familiarity with our books is helpful, but not required.
Former FP interns are now at Penguin, Simon & Schuster, Random House, W.W. Norton & Company, Signs: Journal of Women and Culture, Women Make Movies, On the Issues, and the Huffington Post.
The Fall 2013 internship begins September 3 and runs until December 20 and requires a commitment of three days a week, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We are flexible with students and their schedules. Interns will receive a daily transportation stipend.
Deadline to apply is June 1, 2013.
