Description: Internship Program
Reader’s Digest Association (RDA), is committed to building the next generation of talent, and key to our strategy is our internship program. We are seeking high-potential students interested in career-building opportunities in a fast paced and competitive environment. In turn, we provide interns relevant real-life business experience through short-term projects that support key business initiatives and contribute to our products. You will also gain exposure to RDA's global organization through meetings where you will interact with business professionals, internal industry experts and senior executives throughout the summer.

The RDA summer internship program is open to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year. All internships are credit-based (unpaid). To be considered for this program, students will be asked to provide proper documentation from their school program.

You must submit 3 writing samples, published clips are preferred, along with resume for consideration or include a link to your online portfolio.

Position Description

Editorial Intern - Magazine, New York City (2 interns)
Our Editorial Internships allow interns to work side-by-side with staff editors and researchers in our Manhattan offices. You will assist in research for story development; attend editorial meetings; fact check articles; help identify potential reprint articles and new sources for reprints. In addition, you will assist with a variety of editorial tasks. You must have an interest in magazine publishing and learning the editorial process.

Editorial Intern - Digital, New York City (1 intern)
Our Digital Editorial Intern will work with the managing editor and digital content team on key content operations projects: Reviewing, optimizing and analyzing content for both search and other traffic-driving initiatives. The intern will also work with the digital content team on creating, repackaging, producing and tracking/analyzing content for; as well as producing and tracking/analyzing content for Reader’s Digest social media and newsletter outlets
Editorial Intern - Books, White Plains (1 intern)
The Editorial Intern, Books will be working with all aspects of an editorial assistant position. Intern assists in various editorial duties, writing copy proofreading, submitting formats, and creating fact sheets for our books division.

Copy Intern – Global Marketing & Promotion, White Plains (1 intern)
The Copywriter Intern in the Global Marketing and Promotion group, will assist in the creation of digital promotions for use in worldwide global editions. The intern will brainstorm with global team to come up with ground breaking digital promotions that will be used for lead generation through welcome and retention. A basic understanding of digital promotion and the role it plays in multi-channel marketing is preferred.
Length of Internship: Spring 2012 Term
Requirements: Qualifications:
• You must be enrolled and at a Junior or Senior status for consideration
• Journalism or English majors required, but Communications, Advertising, and Marketing minors are a plus
• Strong writing, editing, multitasking, and organizational skills required
• Strong Microsoft Word experience required, Quark experience a plus
• Respect and appreciation for the brands and their respective target demographics
• Outgoing personality willing to ask questions if content doesn't make sense
• ability to multitask and handle a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Should have some experience in a journalism environment (internships, school activities)
• Some fact-checking experience preferred but not a must
• Must be a voracious reader (magazines, newspapers, blogs, websites, books, etc…)
• Creative problem solver
• Comfortable within a digital environment/digital systems
