Company Name: RED HEN PRESS
Description: Development & Grant Writing internships are intended for qualified applicants seeking hands-on experience in development and PR—especially related to nonprofits. Ideal candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a charismatic personality and self-starting attitude, and a strong interest and background in nonprofit work.

The Development & Grant Writing intern works closely with the Development Associate and Development Assistant to maintain and further established grant and donor relations, and research and cultivate new relations. Responsibilities may include: researching appropriate funding organizations; drafting and proofreading grants, proposals, and LOIs; maintaining and updating our development databases; assisting with coordinating Red Hen’s outreach program, including communicating with authors and local schools; assisting with mailings; providing general Development support such as data entry, filing, scanning, and other administrative duties; and providing general office support and upkeep as needed.
Length of Internship: A minimum of 15–20 hours per week for 4–6 months
Requirements: -A completed or in-progress undergraduate degree (at least 2 years completed by requested internship season) in a relevant field (i.e. English, Communication, etc.)
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Excellent research abilities
-A meticulous attention to detail
-An ability to maintain deadlines, multi-task, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment without close supervision
-High degree of initiative and entrepreneurial spirit
-Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively
-Computer literacy, especially with Microsoft Office and Windows 7
-Valid driver’s license and current insurance
-Previous experience with nonprofit PR or fundraising (not required but preferred)
