Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Description: Alta Editions (, a publisher of award-winning cookbooks, seeks a motivated intern to assist with its production process, who is familiar with both print book design conventions, and CSS; who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves to help meet weekly production deadlines.

We are currently producing digital cookbooks from PDF and EPUB files of existing print editions. As the production intern, you will be responsible for gathering relevant styling information from the print book file, and translating that information into clear, actionable CSS documentation for our development team. We’re not looking for a front-end developer, but having an understanding of CSS basics is essential.

We are ramping up to a weekly production cycle, with many titles queued up to process, and so the ability to meet deadlines with consistency, and/or call out potential blocking issues in advance, is necessary. We meet once a week on Thursdays on the UES, but have a flexible work policy, which rewards someone who can keep on task, ask questions when needed, and ask for help before our workflow is blocked.

If you are interested in testing the waters working for an innovative digital media startup, this is a great opportunity. We’re looking for someone who likes to check things off their “to do” list every day, but also has ideas about how to improve systems, and who can take ownership of their work. And who likes thin crust pizza.
