Responsibilities: To manage all stages of the production editorial process of manuscript to bound book for 10 to 15 titles simultaneously for works copyedited on paper or electronically, maintaining them on schedule and within budget. The Senior Production Editor must be adept at working in the traditional production editorial process and familiar with the electronic desktop-publishing process (as it relates to coding and preparing files for typesetting and production). Under minimal supervision, the Senior Production Editor: ? Assesses manuscripts for copyediting and then sets the initial coding of design elements. ? Prepares Word files for use in electronic copyediting and composition. ? Hires and supervises freelancers (copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, cartographers) and reviews and assumes responsibility for their work. ? Proofreads and checks all stages of proofs and PDFs, for text and jackets/covers. ? Troubleshoots and steps in when needed, at any stage, to perform additional editorial work, including line edits, copyedits, proofreading, etc. ? Coordinates with editors, authors, designers, production personnel, and other professionals, in house and offsite, related to any project that the Senior Production Editor is overseeing. ? Qualifications: ? Five+ years of in-house book publishing experience ? Excellent English-language skills (including mastery of spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and knowledge of the industry-standard texts: Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition and Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th edition. ? Microsoft Word proficiency. ? Adobe Creative Suite experience desirable |
