Title: Editor/Sr. Editor - Sourcebooks Non-Fiction
Description: Callisto Publishing, a leader in creating impactful, data-driven nonfiction books that meet reader needs, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Editor or Senior Editor to join our kids and young adult team. In this role, you will be responsible for positioning, outlining, and managing the editorial development of customer-focused, data-driven nonfiction children’s and YA books. You will work closely with authors, freelancers, designers, data analysts and other key stakeholders to deliver compelling books with proven reader demand. This position can be remote or hybrid in Naperville and fully remote in the following states ONLY:  AZ, CT, MD, MN, NC, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.   

Editor/Senior Editor Key Responsibilities:

Develop and project manage 12-15 books per year with short production cycles, from concept to completion.
Conduct thorough market research, including consumer insights, competitive analysis, and trend evaluation, to guide the development of unique and data-driven nonfiction titles
Create consumer-centric book outlines that fulfill market demands, align with budget and specifications, and efficiently guide authors and production teams through the book development process.
Partner with Author Acquisitions to identify the ideal author for each project.
Collaborate with authors to shape and develop material, ensuring that the final manuscript aligns with the project’s goals, and is delivered on time and within budget.
Hire and manage additional editorial freelancers, including development editors and sensitivity reviewers, to deliver a high-quality final manuscript that aligns with the book’s positioning.
Work closely with design, production, marketing, and sales teams on schedule, format, and the aesthetics of publication.
Oversee the day-to-day development and production of multiple books.
Prepare materials for company launch meetings, including PowerPoint decks and title information sheets.
Requirements: Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience in an editorial role, preferably in children’s publishing.
Proven project management skills, with experience managing freelancers and handling a high volume of projects.
Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and work independently to meet tight deadlines.
Highly motivated and exceptionally organized.
Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop quality products on time and within budget.
Strong understanding of content development and the editorial and marketing factors that enable books to succeed.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Thrives in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
