Title: Editorial Assistant, Political Science, Economics,
Description: W. W. Norton & Company, Inc. is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join its College Editorial Department to assist in the development of course materials for the political science, economics and environmental science. The position does not require subject matter expertise, but it does require willingness to develop a deeper understanding of the higher education landscape in these disciplines. This is a full-time, entry level position based out of Norton’s headquarters in NYC.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

Management of manuscripts in all stages of production; preparing manuscripts for copyediting and production.
Managing peer review programs: researching and recruiting instructors to serve as editorial reviewers for texts; sending review materials to reviewers.; communicating professionally with reviewers via email.
Professionally interacting with authors, as well as production, permissions, marketing, and sales staff.
Proactive problem solving, including reaching out to stakeholders by email and phone to ask questions and outline a plan for resolution.
Administrative management: organizing and maintaining files; tracking manuscripts and reviews; copying, printing, and emailing.
Processing and tracking payments to authors and peer reviewers.
Coordinating with in-house teams to manage text and photo permissions.
Coordinating meetings with authors and editorial teams: scheduling meetings, sending reminders; circulating detailed summaries of decisions made to attendees.
Line editing manuscripts and editorial memos.
Contributing to overall publishing strategy for individual titles.
Conducting market research.
Requirements: Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree.
Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
Must be able to work full business hours from Norton’s New York City headquarters
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
Must be able to anticipate needs and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions.
Must be able to develop rapport and relationships with all levels of employees as well as external collaborators.
Must be capable of handling sensitive, critical information.
Must be proactive, flexible, and adaptive in a rapidly changing environment and adjust with a "can-do" attitude.
Must be self-directed and independent, and able to identify problems and propose solutions.
Must have good time management skills, be organized, and be capable of multi-tasking across departments, activities, and projects.
Must be detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of their daily activities are handled with accuracy, with minimal mistakes.
Mastery of email, calendar, and communication tools required, specifically Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
Proficiency in Word and Excel.

Currently available benefits include:

Annual compensation for this position is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
