Title: Executive Editor, Workman Calendar and Gift
Description: Workman Publishing has an exciting new position for an Executive Editor of its Calendar and Gift program. Bringing more than ten years of editorial and acquisition experience to the role, including the ability to manage authors and agents and complex projects, this position offers the opportunity to be a part of one of the industry’s most successful and beloved programs. Reporting to the Associate Publisher of Workman Publishing, the Executive Editor will develop new business by acquiring leading brands and talent for a suite of products, overseeing the acquisition of 8-12 individual new calendar titles a year, and editing a minimum of 15 calendars annually.

We’re looking for someone with a solid background in illustrated and/or gift publishing, who has expertise and experience in developing new programs, working with authors and/or businesses to develop brand extensions, and a keen eye for commerce and detail. Our offices are wonderfully creative and collaborative, and the ideal candidate will regularly pitch ideas and projects, participate in discussions with the Publisher and Associate Publisher, and have authors and agents they routinely get submissions from. They should be able to articulate their taste verbally and in writing, both in-house and out. They will be advocates for their projects from start to finish.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Work with Publisher and Associate Publisher to identify opportunities and develop offerings for the calendar and gift program
Edit 15-20 calendars titles per year
Meet with agents, authors, illustrators, and in-house sales, marketing, and editorial staff to pitch and hear about calendar and gift ideas
Make deals and negotiate contracts
Manage an editor and an assistant
Collaborate with design, managing editorial, sales, and other departments as necessary to meet deadlines
Present at in-house meetings including Acquisitions, Launch, and Sales Conference
Requirements: Requirements:
Minimum ten experience in illustrated and/or gift publishing
A thorough understanding of the overall publishing process
Expertise in both line editing and conceptual editing
A creative person with excellent oral and written communication skills, self-motivated and able to work independently as necessary, as well as with colleagues across the organization
Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines
Established contacts
Proven ability to negotiate with authors and agents
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

The compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $125,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
