Title: Contracts & Foreign Rights Associate or Manager
Description: The Experiment seeks a Contracts & Foreign Rights Associate or Manager to:

• Generate our primary publishing agreements, based on editorial colleagues' prior negotiations; ensure timely execution of agreements, tracking contract status from drafting through signature
• Sublicense publication rights to foreign publishers worldwide
• Liaise with our numerous foreign rights representatives across all aspects of our work with them
• Generate subsidiary and any necessary secondary publishing agreements; ensure prompt payment of any advances and/or file fees due to The Experiment
• Generate on-signing and select other agreement-related check requests and keep our foreign subrights databases updated
• Monitor expiration of primary/secondary agreements, as well as sublicenses, and negotiate renewals where applicable
• Coordinate our participation in the London and Frankfurt Book Fairs (whether we participate virtually or in person), including preparation of rights guides and other pitch materials, as well as pitching our catalog to foreign editors and subagents
• Register copyright for each new title with the U.S. Copyright Office
• Work collaboratively with our royalties and domestic subrights associate
• Keep informed on industry standards in terms of rights and contracts, and update company boilerplates, as needed.

The compensation for this position is $52,500-$60,000; this salary range is specific to this position and considers factors including the candidate's relevant skills and experience.
Requirements: We seek someone who, most crucially, has a proven ability to exercise impeccable judgment and superlative written and verbal communication skills. And who is highly detailed oriented, an unceasing initiative-taker and problem solver, and happy to work both independently and collaboratively. We require knowledge of and at least two full years of experience in contracts and/or rights for the Coordinator position, and at least four full years of experience for the Manager position.

• Familiarity with That’s Rights!|EasyRoyalties, AdobeSign, &/or InDesign a plus
• Foreign-language proficiency is desirable but not required.

The Experiment is an independent publisher founded in 2008 and committed to publishing a wide range of nonfiction as well as select children's storybooks with a teaching mission. We are a collegial, creative, book-loving, and hard-working crew, with offices near Gramercy Park in Manhattan.

We've developed a 420+ title-strong list encompassing a wide range of practical and narrative nonfiction, including books on the sciences, nature, history, and current affairs; healthful eating; giftable, illustrated reference; pregnancy & parenting; lifestyle, health & wellness; self-help, psychology, & relationships; and creativity (art, coloring & puzzle books).

Our books are sold and distributed in the US by W. W. Norton & Company.

At a time when trade book publishing is dominated by a few large companies, we are excited to be operating at the sort of intimate scale that was once the norm; our books are no less far-reaching, for it.
