Title: Summer 2024 Legal Intern
Description: Hachette Book Group’s summer internship program offers students an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and explore an area of interest. To learn more about the company, visit our career site:

Program dates: June 3rd – August 9th (10 weeks)

Location: ON-SITE: This position will be based in our NY office on a two day a week hybrid schedule. Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.

Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, 9:00am-5:00pm

Pay rate: $16/hour

As an HBG Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.

To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct legal research and draft legal correspondence.
Review and draft contracts based on templates.
Prepare legal resources including training materials.
Assist with document review and legal records management.
Assist HBG attorneys in addressing various publishing-related issues from defamation and free speech to copyright.
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Currently enrolled and in good standing in a law school.
A strong interest in media law, intellectual property, digital marketing and data privacy compliance, and commercial contracts including IP licenses, is preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems in a logical manner.
Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
