Health insurance and 401K offered Job Summary: Literary Agent representing award winning literary fiction and commercial fiction, as well as a select range of non-fiction, seeks full-time assistant and first serial rights associate. This role has opportunities for mentorship and growth. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Research and handle audio and 1st serial submissions for clients, including short stories, magazine pieces, book excerpts, and vet contracts for these rights - Read and evaluate manuscripts and periodically write editorial letters - Correspond with clients and publishers via email and phone - Assist in composing pitch letters and researching publishers for submissions - Manage extensive submissions list - Manage payments: process payments from publishers and remit to clients - Manage contracts: research contract information, perform initial review of agreements, create memoranda for review by Business Affairs department, coordinate the negotiation and signature processes - Liaise with Foreign Rights department to share materials, descriptive copy, publicity updates, and author materials for foreign submissions and rights guides - Coordinate handling film rights: submit projects to co-agents; supply materials for submission; track status of optioned properties, field rights interest and confirm rights statuses - Track details of publication (delivery dates, production schedules, permissions, marketing & publicity plans, launch events, publication date, etc) - Perform administrative duties such as filing, answering phone calls, mailing, managing calendar and appointments, updating client database, generating expense reports *** Additional job responsibilities may be assigned |
Requirements: | - Bachelor’s degree
- 2-3 years of book publishing experience, preferably at a literary agency - Excellent people and communication skills - Superior organizational skills and very detail-oriented - Extremely professional and articulate - Experience reading, writing readers reports on, and editing literary fiction - Flexible, adaptable, and eager to work with exceptional writers in a fast-paced environment - Familiarity with book publishing contracts a PLUS - Experience assisting senior executive a PLUS - Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook - Knowledge of BAITS software a PLUS |
