Title: | Editorial Assistant, Hachette Books |
Description: | Hachette Books/Hachette Go is seeking an Editorial Assistant to primarily support an Editorial Director and Senior Editor who acquire and edit in the areas of practical, prescriptive non-fiction, including self help and motivation, health and wellness, business and personal finance, parenting, and cookbooks. We publish fresh voices and leading experts, including marginalized and underrepresented authors, and focus on the themes of equality, diversity & inclusion. This is an entry-level role in our editorial department, but one with opportunities for learning and growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Interact professionally with authors and literary agents, as well as internal departments within the imprint and HBG, including design, publicity, marketing, production, sales. Prepare materials for and traffic editorial projects through all stages of the editorial process from acquisition through final book, including profit and loss statements (P&Ls), acquisition memos, transmittal materials, galley and flap copy Enter title data into proprietary database systems and maintain data throughout publishing process; learn Title Management and other internal workflow systems Draft and circulate deal memos and contract forms. Draft descriptive copy and fact sheets, cover memos that will be used to explain books to the sales and marketing departments. Attend and prepare materials for editorial meetings, and marketing and sales meetings as required. Review and discuss book proposals from literary agents as given by Executive and Senior Editors Research book sales using internal and external databases. Participate in brainstorming meetings and share ideas for books and other product Perform administrative duties, including: scheduling, photocopying, handling mail, filing, directing/responding to inquiries, ordering office supplies, submitting expenses, maintain book archives, misc. research projects, etc. Assist and help manage our extensive backlist as directed by supervisor Potential for editing manuscripts based on experience and interest Assist senior editorial staff (one working remotely full-time from Berkeley, CA) and pitch in with general imprint work as needed |
