Title: | Literary Associate |
Description: | This position reports directly to Joanna Volpe (President, Founder, and Literary Agent) at New Leaf Literary & Media. We are looking for someone who is keenly interested in becoming a literary agent and ready to be fast-tracked through the training process, which makes the level of book-publishing experience key in our determination.
Daily tasks and general duties include, but aren’t limited to: · Provide various client-care related assistance (such as events, blurbs, conferences, etc) · Review and/or draft materials such as pitches, submission lists, reports, statements, agreements, letters, marketing materials for clients, and other documents. · Read, evaluate, and edit manuscripts, proposals, and other written materials in a timely, deadline-oriented manner. · Support the client welcome and onboard process as well as the client bible, production schedule, rights guides and agent bible for Jo’s office. · Assist in research and development opportunities for clients · Prepare and/or submit client materials for various subrights, events and partnership opportunities · Liaise with various publishing and entertainment industry professionals and communicate with different departments within New Leaf Literary including film/tv, foreign, marketing, accounting and contracts. · Maintain polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail. · Anticipate the needs of others in order to ensure a seamless and positive experience. This position may also include administrative work including coordinating meetings and attendant logistics, intaking and placing phone calls, managing mail and correspondence, real-time, high-volume scheduling support and handling office tasks, such as filing, database entry and other clerical work. COMPENSATION: · $60,000 (payroll is run twice monthly) · Health Benefits · Retirement Benefits 401k (with 3% company match) · Annual Bonus Bonus is at the discretion of management and is determined by a myriad of factors, including but not limited to the execution of the responsibilities listed above, representation of the company in the industry and when interacting with clients, as well as the results of scheduled review meetings. · Work Schedule includes: Summer Fridays 12 PTO days per year (ie - personal, vacation, etc) 40 additional hours of paid SSL (Safe and Sick Leave) per year Paid holiday time includes: Ø New Year’s Day (1/1) Ø Martin Luther King Day Ø President’s Day Ø Easter Monday Ø Memorial Day Ø Juneteenth (6/19) Ø Independence Day (7/4) Ø Labor Day Ø Wednesday before Thanksgiving Ø Thanksgiving Day Ø Friday after Thanksgiving Ø The day prior to Christmas Eve Ø Christmas Eve Ø Christmas Day Ø December 26th through December 30th Ø New Year’s Eve Note: Unused accrued PTO must be used within the year accrued. They will not carry over to the next year nor can they be encashed at the end of the year or be paid upon termination or resignation. SSL, however, is independently allotted by our company from your PTO, and also up to 40 hours of it may be carried over from one year to the next. Also note that during the pandemic, any time off needed for Covid-19 related reasons (whether you become ill or must become a caregiver for another) will not count toward PTO. |
Requirements: | · 4+ years experience working in the book publishing industry
· A sense of ownership and a drive to evolve in the role, treating each meeting, client interaction, etc. as an opportunity to learn and gain new skills. · Resourcefulness and an ability to bring past experience to bear on new situations to support the overall client list and goals. · Exceptional interpersonal and communication manner and skills (verbal and written) with a sturdy sense of tact. · Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of anticipating needs and requests before they arise. · Superlative organizational and prioritizing skills, being both attentive to details and proficient at multitasking. · Positive, go-getter and flexible attitude, capable of working well both collaboratively with colleagues of all levels as well as independently with an aptitude for problem solving. · Experience working with confidential information showing track record of trustworthiness and responsibility. · Ability to work late. · Superior computer skills (including proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs) a must. · Social media savviness and/or marketing experience is a plus. |
