Position Profile

Organized, creative, and enthusiastic person to join our Publicity team as an Associate Publicist. This person will provide departmental support and work on a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction titles, from board books through young adult novels, from Bloomsbury Children’s Books.


Primary Responsibilities

• Work independently on 3-6 campaigns per season publicizing books and authors of children’s books
• Pitch and arrange features with national, regional, and local broadcast, print, online media, and bloggers, developing proper angles and pitches
• Plan and execute author appearances and tours, including arranging travel, creating tour schedules, and traveling as necessary
• Publicity administration, including maintaining media lists and contact databases, managing a generic inbox, managing seasonal catalog outreach and requests, overseeing a weekly Marketing & Publicity Update, coordinating mailings, managing NetGalley requests, and tracking and distributing review coverage
• Departmental administration, including processing invoices and monthly expenses, fulfilling review copy requests, managing memberships and subscriptions, and general office maintenance including book ordering, distribution, and organization
• Manage award submissions and festival pitches
• Provide general administrative support to the Director of Publicity
Requirements: Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in publishing (publicity preferred), PR, journalism, or event planning, with experience or interest in children’s books
• Exceptional and effective communication skills, both oral and written
• Fastidious attention to detail, highly organized, and able to keep to and/or work ahead of deadlines
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent skills in diplomacy, a strong sense of initiative and high level of professionalism
• Possess a strong working knowledge of what is fresh in the media landscape and apply this knowledge to assigned projects and campaigns
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Publicity Assistant, Cision, Biblio, UPS CampusShip, NetGalley, and social media platforms

Location: Location: Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home until further notice. Upon office re-opening, this position will be subject to a hybrid work arrangement, with two days in the office required, and up to five if the candidate chooses. Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT, or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office full-time when the office re-opens.
