Title: Publicity Assistant
Description: Workman Publishing Co., Inc., is seeking a dynamic, motivated and talented Publicity Assistant to join the Publicity and Marketing team within the Workman Publishing imprint. The candidate will work across our diverse list of titles and national brands of books and calendars, handling a wide range of duties including support for both Publicity Managers who work on exciting lead titles in the cookbook, children’s and lifestyle realms. The candidate must be extremely organized, an excellent writer and communicator, have a strong interest in publicity, publishing, and event planning, and be able to work well under pressure.

The Publicity Assistant will be responsible for supporting publicity campaigns managed by senior staff, singlehandedly executing campaigns on frontlist titles, and handling departmental administrative duties. Assistance on lead campaigns will include: building media lists, media pitching, creating tour itineraries, scheduling travel, arranging author escorts, writing press releases and pitch letters, preparing promotional materials for events, gathering images for media placements, and coordinating mailings (both digital and physical). They will also be responsible for their own titles, giving them a chance to take ownership of publicity campaigns and gain vital experience outside of a support role. There will also be opportunities to assist with social media campaigns, act as an author escort for local NYC events and media, and participate in leading industry events and conferences. 

Requirements:
• College degree, or equivalent work experience
• Prior publicity or public relations experience through part-time work or internships is preferred 
• Passion for adult nonfiction and children’s books 
• Self-starter and detail oriented
• Impeccable verbal and written communication skills

Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home for the foreseeable future, although interested candidates must reside in either NY, NJ, or CT and be able to commute to Workman’s NYC office full-time when it’s once again safe to work in an office environment.
