Title: Assistant Editor, LBYR (Young Readers)
Description: SUMMARY:
The Assistant Editor will provide essential editorial and administrative support to the EVP Publisher and Editorial Director (all categories, from picture book up to YA) on their projects, as well as manage select titles independently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Editor will manage book projects through all phases from manuscript to finished book (both print and digital).
-Correspond directly with authors, artists, and agents.
-Coordinate all book elements (permissions, illustrations, contracts, profit & loss forms).
-Prepare title fact sheets, catalog copy, cover copy, and metadata for assigned titles.
-Provide materials and information for sales, marketing, and publicity for assigned titles, coordinate reprints and paperbacks, and update metadata for backlist
-Enter, maintain, and track data throughout the publishing process
-Read, report on, log in, track, and respond to submissions of projects targeted to children and young adults
-Generate and track contract and payment requests
-Liaise with other departments, especially in trafficking editorial projects through production, copy editing, marketing, etc.
Requirements: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
-2-4 years previous children’s editorial publishing experience.
B.A. preferred
-Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of children’s book marketplace
-Experience with editing picture books, Middle Grade, and Young Adult nonfiction and fiction preferred.
-Knowledge of and contacts in the industry are a plus, as is an ability to identify new talent.
-Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel required; knowledge of PPT, Bookscan, databases, and ability to produce reports a plus.
