Description: | We are seeking a publicist to join our team at Counterpoint/Soft Skull Press. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of publicity experience, preferable with a trade book publisher focusing on high-quality fiction and nonfiction; have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a proven ability to juggle projects and duties, demonstrated organizational skills along with creativity and a passion for books and reading and knowledge of the contemporary literary world. Candidates must have impeccable attention to detail, the ability to be proactive and problem-solve, and a communication style that instills confidence in authors, editors, and agents.
The position will report directly to the Associate Publisher/Publicity Director. This position is based in New York City. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and execute targeted media and event campaigns for all Soft Skull trade titles, including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry (approx. 12 titles per year) Design and execute targeted media and event campaigns for select Counterpoint non-fiction titles, including history/biography, memoir, arts and culture, current events, travel, politics and the environment (approx. 8 titles per year) Create media lists and maintain publicity databases Develop tailored press materials (including galley letters, press releases, author praise sheets, email pitches, and jacket copy) while overseeing review copy mailings and maintaining diligent follow-up via email and phone Analyze and report on efficacy of PR outreach in weekly meetings Attend industry conferences/conventions/festivals, author events, and in-person media meetings Schedule, book, confirm, attend, and report on NYC Soft Skull and Counterpoint author events Build relationships with and liaise directly with booksellers, librarians, and cultural influencers Create and update individual author itineraries and master calendar Manage awards system for authors Oversee any press mailings for all Catapult, Counterpoint, Black Balloon and Soft Skull imprints originating from our NYC office Supervise NYC intern(s) on publicity-related duties Contribute creative ideas and new approaches to book publicity when appropriate Job Type: Full-time Required experience: 2 years experience required in book publicity; Bachelor’s degree Please send a resume and cover letter to Megan Fishmann at megan.fishmann@counterpointpress.com |
