Title: | Editorial Assistant (Children/Education) |
Description: | Skyhorse Publishing, one of the fastest growing independent publishers in America, is seeking an energetic, team-oriented candidate to work in our editorial department in our midtown Manhattan office.

As the Editorial Assistant, the candidate will be responsible for assisting the Editorial Director on all stages of the Director’s titles, and for supporting the Director in all aspects of managing the imprint. Responsibilities may include: • Assist in every step of the titles on the director’s list • Provide administrative support: schedule meetings, help prepare for sales presentations, assist in backlist issues • Assist with managing/coordinating with the freelance Art Director • Monitor editorial and production schedules, keeping track of project status and due dates • Help prepare manuscripts for production and coordinate proofs • Maintain relationships with director’s authors and agents • Write catalog and flap copy • Process contracts and payments • Enter title information in distributor's database • Track and research sales information and gather sales materials when needed • Liaise internally with departments, including marketing, publicity, sales, and managing ed • Develop skills in editing manuscripts and familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style • Evaluate manuscripts for the Editorial Director and senior staff and manage the Sky Pony submission box • Check final passes for Sky Pony Press titles |
Requirements: | • BA in English or related field
• 1+ years of publishing experience or experience with children preferred • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs • Demonstrated passion for children's books • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Immediate availability preferred |
