Title: Acquisitions Editor - Running Press
Description: Running Press is looking for an Acquisition Editor for trade nonfiction books to join its team. The ideal candidate will have 5-6 years of experience in book publishing, solid contacts with literary agents, but most importantly, must possess a well-honed ability to conceive book ideas and actively develop them to fruition. This creative, hands-on editor would be responsible for acquiring and editing approximately 12-15 books a year—primarily in the areas of humor, gift, novelty and pop culture. The ideal candidate will be an avid consumer of popular culture across all medium, especially all kinds of digital media, and will be able to spot current and upcoming trends and execute book projects that will appeal to these audiences.
Requirements: Essential Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 5-6 years of experience in book publishing
• Strong interest and knowledge of current trends, especially in the vlogosphere/blogosphere
• Experience working with wide variety of book formats and packages
• Experience taking ideas and building books from the ground up—creating concepts, finding writers, etc.
• Excellent developmental editing skills
• Detail-oriented and able to juggle many deadlines at once
Job Duties:
• Acquire and edit 12-15 books a year
• Manage the book publication process, from conception to publication
• Write catalog copy, jacket copy, and in-house positioning sales materials
• Pitch and present projects at targeted meetings
