Description: North Atlantic Books is offering an exciting opportunity to intern at a growing independent trade publisher. As an intern, you will work closely with our publicists and marketing staff to learn the fundamentals of book promotion while gaining valuable, real-world experience in a highly competitive industry. Our supportive, small company environment (around 25 employees) will allow you to gain an understanding of a publishing house as a whole. You will also have an opportunity to attend in-the-office meetings as your schedule allows. This unpaid position is ideal for anyone looking for hands-on experience in book marketing and publicity.

Founded in 1974, North Atlantic Books is a leading independent book publisher, which Publishers Weekly named one of the Top 10 growing small publishers of 2005. We are currently distributed by Random House. Our mission is primarily to develop new ideas, nurture practical education, and spread timeless wisdom. We are a leading publisher in the areas of bodywork, alternative health, diet and nutrition, metaphysics, literature, and quirky aspects of pop culture. Blue Snake Books was developed in 2005 as a martial arts imprint and is presently the largest publisher of internal and historical martial arts books in the world.
Length of Internship: June through August 2009
Requirements: *Undergraduate or Graduate student in English, Communications, Marketing, or Liberal Arts.
*Interest in publishing.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills.
*Professional manners and dependability.
*Comfortable working in a Mac-based environment.
*Microsoft Office experience and familiarity with the internet. Adobe Suite skills a plus.
*Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize.
*Ability to complete full time commitment of internship.
Location: Candidates are required to live in the San Francisco Bay Area during the internship. Sorry--no telecommuting.
Application Due Date: Start date is flexible, preferably early June.
Payment: This internship is unpaid, but interns may arrange for academic credit through their college or university.
