Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: Who we are
Founded in 1923, W. W. Norton is the oldest and largest independent and employee-owned publishing house, publishing works of Nobel laureates, master teachers, and Pulitzer Prize winners. For over a century, Norton has been dedicated to achieving a common goal: to bring to readers and students enduring fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as high-quality textbooks and digital learning tools.

About the internship
W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes educational lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the Music Digital Media team may include the following:

• Locating and copying credit information for pieces excerpted in our Music Theory textbook.
• Additional to the above, listening to the new excerpts submitted to check that they sound correct based off of textbook example.
• Compiling media assets and placement directions for our eBook vendors to reference when embedding audio players in our Music textbooks.
• Going through question-challenge data and compiling a list of the most relevant suggestions for review and corrections.
• Assist with building Spotify Playlists for an upcoming book based on a playlist created by the book authors.
• Assist with reviewing eBook passes for quality and functionality, and provide corrections along with the media editors.
• Compiling materials and preparing manuscripts for reviews and production.
• Assist with checking the quality of our online learning tools through development.
• Additional tasks as needed.

Why you’ll be a great fit
We are excited to add interns who bring diverse perspectives to Norton. The ideal candidate is curious, hardworking, and eager to learn more about the different facets of publishing. Here are some skills and qualities we look for in candidates:
• You are a college junior, senior, recent graduate, or someone looking to make a career change.
• You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills.
• You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
• You have a passion for learning and ideas.
• You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• While not required, experience and comfort in reading music is a plus for working with this team and will be prioritized in the hiring process. Please indicate experience in your cover letter and resume where applicable.
