Company Name: OVERCUP PRESS
Description: The Overcup Press / Clyde Custom Publishing internship program provides the opportunity for literary enthusiasts (both undergraduate and graduate students), to get hands-on experience working with an award-winning book publishing company. Interns will learn and work with Overcup staff, authors, and knowledgeable industry professionals.

We offer four internship sessions per year: Fall (September - December), Winter (January - April), Spring (April - June) and Summer (June - August). Interns are invited to apply for one session, multiple sessions or for a full year. We provide in-person/online hybrid programs for Portland-based interns as well as remote internships for interns in other cities. Portland-based interns are expected to meet in person 1-2 times per week.

Overcup Press primarily focuses on literary nonfiction and gift titles, while Clyde Custom Publishing works with many types of publishing projects.The internships focus on marketing, publicity, and some editorial responsibilities. This internship provides a great opportunity to gain real world experience at an independent publishing house. Interns will complete the program with invaluable insight into the running of an independent press, the ins and outs of distribution, title acquisition, editing, marketing, publicity, and more.


OUR INTERNSHIPS
Interns will work closely with each other and members of Overcup’s leadership team, marketing and PR staff, editorial staff, and freelance editors and designers. While assisting on a wide range of projects, interns will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of book publishing, while also gaining a good understanding of the industry

Responsibilities will include:


A commitment to work fifteen to twenty-five hours per week at set times during U.S. Pacific office hours.
Reading and reacting to submissions.
Copywriting, editing and proofreading marketing materials.
Seeking out promising new authors by reading print and online journals, blogs, and other publications
Working on special projects as needed.
Assisting with tracking,formatting and archiving company documentation
Supporting social media content creation and blog writing
Social media engagement and research
Assisting in the production of video content, advertisements, press kits, and other marketing materials
Other projects as assigned to meet the needs of the press.

Requirements: Necessary Skills and Qualifications:

Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
Skilled in coordinating and completing both special projects, and routine tasks.
Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite or Google products (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc).
General familiarity with project management tools (such as Trello or Asana).
Ability to work independently and with others.
Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work well with deadlines.
A passion for publishing and a knowledge of contemporary literature



Qualified candidates will have:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
The ability to work independently.

Access to a working computer and focused workspace
