| Description: | Aevitas offers interns the opportunity to explore a career in publishing, gaining valuable experience, building new skills, and forging meaningful connections by assisting at all stages of the agenting process—from evaluating queries and reading proposals to providing detailed feedback on manuscripts and crafting pitches. Interns will also learn about contracts, royalties, client relations, and other details of the agency business, working closely with a highly experienced group of agents whose tastes and lists vary widely.
Ideal applicants will be perceptive readers and informed consumers of culture, comfortable meeting deadlines and managing projects both collaboratively and solo. Prospective interns from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in publishing are especially encouraged to apply. Interns will gain experience: - Reading fiction manuscripts and nonfiction proposals - Creating detailed reader’s reports to assist agents in making acquisition decisions and editing projects that have already been signed - Copyediting and proofreading - Interacting with agents and clients - Assisting with administrative tasks |
| Length of Internship: | Beginning of June through August, exact dates flexible. |
| Requirements: | Qualifications:
- Previous editorial and/or writing experience - Very strong reading and writing skills - Time management ability |

| Payment: | Hours are flexible, but a time commitment of at least 10 hours/week is required. We pay the NYC minimum wage of $15/hour. In the summer, interns typically work 20 hours/week. |
