| Description: | Applicants should have a strong interest in book publishing, children’s books in particular (picture book, middle grade, and young adult literature). They should also be comfortable with occasional adult submissions and manuscripts in the genres of fantasy, rom-com, and horror.
Intern applicants should be critical readers with an editorial eye, as well as strong writers. They should be committed to promoting diversity through literature. Our intern will be responsible for reading submissions for two agents. These will include queries as well as full manuscripts from both hopefuls and established clients. The intern will also be responsible for writing evaluations of these manuscripts. The intern will also learn about contracts, subsidiary rights, and the duties of an agency assistant, and will occasionally help with research projects such as compiling an agency client's backlist titles, seeking new publishers for submission, etc. Overall, our goal is to create an environment where students will learn firsthand about an agency’s role in book publishing. We are able to offer a small stipend for this internship. We would like an intern to work 12-16 hours per week and to commit to a semester-long term, but we can be extremely flexible with your schedule. *Please note: We regret that we can only consider U.S.-based candidates at this time. However, the position is remote, so candidates do not need to live near our office. |
