About the internship W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes brown bag lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the print and media Sociology and Cultural Anthropology team may include the following: • Reviewing textbook chapter proofs for Gender 3E, Introduction to Sociology 13E, Essentials of Sociology 9E, Cultural Anthropology 4E, and Essentials of Cultural Anthropology 4E during different stages of production for style consistency. • Assisting with the preparation of manuscripts and creating art logs for new editions. • Reviewing and preparing media ancillary materials for test bank manuscripts, lecture slides, and interactive instructor’s guides. • Identifying revised content and indicating them in coded spreadsheets. • Reviewing questions in Norton’s adaptive learning tool, InQuizitive, and using a coded spreadsheet to log questions that need changes. • Reviewing and assessing student questions and their metadata. • Cataloging, organizing, and editing digital assets, including figures, lecture PowerPoints, and Instructor's Guide activities. • Checking for copyright infringement postings of the test bank questions • Executing marketing projects on a case-by-case basis, such as drafting content for the Norton Sociology Twitter and Facebook pages. |

We are excited to add interns who bring diverse perspectives to Norton. The ideal candidate is curious, hardworking, and eager to learn more about the different facets of publishing. Here are some skills and qualities we look for in candidates: • You are a college junior, senior, or recent graduate. • You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills. • You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges. • You have a passion for learning and ideas. • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. • You are interested in pursuing a career in academic/textbook publishing. • You are interested in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology as academic disciplines. • You have taken college-level courses in Sociology/Cultural Anthropology (as a major/minor is a plus). Internship details • Interns are paid $15 per hour and work 20 hours weekly. • Internship period is twelve weeks from 9/27/21 through 12/17/21. • Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern’s schedule. • This internship will be a mix of remote and in person, based in our Manhattan offices. • Eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the U.S. is required. |
