Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Company Name: LITERARY AGENCY
Description: *Due to COVID-19, this internship may be adapted to a remote program, subject to change as the situation progresses*

For people with a love of reading who are interested in entering the publishing world, Foundry’s internship program is ideal. This internship will provide excellent experience in many different sides of the publishing industry, including editorial, foreign rights, filmed media, and contracts.

Depending on placement, projects may include reading and reporting on manuscripts, assisting with editorial submissions, writing coverage of screenplays and manuscripts being considered for film adaptation, managing databases of royalty statements and contracts, drafting posts for Foundry’s social media platforms, and researching new book ideas and potential authors, among others.

Administrative duties will be kept to a minimum, but may include working the front desk and organizing mailings.

If you have interest or experience in a particular department (editorial, foreign rights, filmed media, and contracts), please reference that in your cover letter. Note that we often assign interns to multiple departments, as we strive to give a broad experience of the industry.
Length of Internship: 3 months (June-August)
Requirements: 1. Candidates should be working towards a bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree. Recent college graduates may also apply for the position.
2. Analytical/critical eye with an ability to provide a concise opinion in writing.
3. No experience in the publishing field is necessary, although it is a definite plus.
4. Applicants must be able to work at least 2 days a week in Foundry’s NYC office. Work and academic schedules will be accommodated.
Location: New York, NY
Application Due Date: May 1, 2020
Payment: If your school or career center requires it, we can provide academic credit for your time with us. Otherwise, we are able to offer in-office interns a small stipend for daily MTA fare and lunch. We are unfortunately not able to offer a stipend for remote work.
How To Apply For This Internship: Send a cover letter and resume BY May 1st to Yona Levin at psasst@foundrymedia.com. Please make the subject line “Literary Agency Internship, Summer 2020.” Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive we are not able to respond to all applicants. We will reach out to candidates about interviews on a rolling basis.
