| Description: | What we are looking for: An intern motivated by the opportunity to learn about the book publishing business from the unique perspective of an independent trade publishing company. Candidates for our internship positions are asked to commit to three full days or 20 or more hours a week over the course of the semester.
Our editorially-focused publishing internship is an opportunity to learn about all aspects of both print and digital book publishing in a small, friendly environment. Our interns will have the opportunity to work closely with all departments, including production, publicity and marketing, sales, and digital, but especially editorial. Interns will get the chance to gain experience and develop skills researching and evaluating possible acquisitions; writing clear, effective copy, including back cover copy and tip sheets; proofreading a variety of materials; maintaining websites and social media; contributing to author/book publicity and marketing campaigns; as well as helping with periodic mailings and various administrative tasks. Work hours are flexible between 9:30 and 6:30, Monday through Friday. What we offer: A hospitable, low-stress work environment. | Length of Internship: | Usually beginning sometime in June and runs through August, subject to availability and start date. Exact start and end dates to be determined at time of hire. We ask for at least a 3-month time commitment. |
| Requirements: | What we'd like from you: Prospective interns must have at least completed their sophomore year in college. Highly desirable requirements are outstanding written and communication skills, a firm grasp of the basic rules of English grammar, and an efficient and organized way of doing things. An interest in nonfiction publishing, especially in the areas that The Experiment publishes, is preferred. Previous office experience is preferred but not mandatory. Curiosity and an inclination and ability to ask questions are essential, as is discretion. |
