Description: Augsburg Fortress Publishers is a multimedia company, comprised of three talented, creative sub-divisions: Augsburg Fortress, Fortress Press, and sparkhouse. We are the Publishing House of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), and together we create books, bibles, and videos that renew Christian life and community. Augsburg Fortress’ IT Department is seeking an IT Intern who is excited about providing technical computer-related support to Augsburg Fortress this summer, 2016.

This paid position will offer unique exposure to hands-on learning opportunities in many different areas of the IT field. The IT Intern will assist with deploying and inventorying computer equipment, as well as assisting with the organizing and rearranging of equipment in the data center. This may include running cables, moving rack mounted servers, and disposing of decommissioned equipment. The intern will work closely with the IT Help Desk Technician, and will report to the Server and Network Systems Lead Engineer.

As an IT Intern, you will be responsible for handling internal customer requests for support. These requests will be submitted via the Help Desk Service Request system, as well as via email, phone, and in-person. General communication from you will likewise normally be conducted in one of these manners. Issues will involve desktop, laptop, and printer hardware problems, software errors, and installations and user training. You will need to provide status and updates to users and IT staff regarding these issues.

The IT Intern will also setup and deploy new/used hardware, and inventory new/existing hardware. This individual will receive additional tasks, including assisting with organizing and rearranging servers, racks, and cables in the server room. Other tasks will be assigned as needed.
Length of Internship: 12 Weeks - Summer, 2016
Requirements: • Some college experience, working toward a technical degree
• Proven skills using and working with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10
• Demonstrable experience using and working with Microsoft Office 2013, Office 2016 and Office 365
• A Microsoft Certification (highly desirable)
• Proven experience troubleshooting Windows, hardware, software, and printers
• Proven experience with Macintosh hardware and OSX (a plus)
• A palpable desire to work with others to help them learn to solve their computer-related problems within a business environment
• A people-centered approach to using, learning, and teaching computer technologies
• The aptitude for curiosity, and finding root causes and long-term solutions to problems
• The ability to determine priorities and work in a self-directed manner
• Demonstrable teaching and communication skills

Location: The Augsburg Fortress paid internship program is robust, and includes flexible scheduling, time off, and no-cost gym access in the 510 Marquette fitness center! The beautiful, corporate, newly re-designed headquarters hosts 120 employees and is located in downtown Minneapolis with adjacent access to light Rail and MetroTransit bus lines, as well as skyway access to restaurants, banks, and shopping centers.
