Description: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is seeking an intern to support trade editorial staff in our New York office. The editorial intern will assist with the day-to-day operations of the department. The intern will learn about the book production process and provide assistance as needed (e.g, reading and formatting draft manuscripts, organizing photo insert materials, securing permissions). Other responsibilities will include reading submissions and drafting manuscript reports and letters in response to submissions; submitting HMH titles for awards; and researching prospective authors and book topics. The intern will also perform standard administrative work such as mailings, filing, and processing invoices.
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have prior editorial or book publishing experience, a knowledge of and interest in Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s list, and a desire to learn about publishing. An eye for detail and excellent communication and organizational skills are a must, as are good judgment, basic computer skills, and the ability to work well individually and as a member of a group.

Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
