Position Profile

An exciting opportunity to build a rights program from the ground up. Responsible for the sale of the following rights: Rights & Co-edition for UK and Commonwealth, Audio, Large Print, Book Club and Serial.
Oversees all aspects of the rights process from pitching to negotiating and processing deals for applicable Adult trade books published by Bloomsbury.

Primary Responsibilities

• Selling rights & co-editions in the UK & Commonwealth to an agreed strategy
• Initiate and develop business relationships with new and existing customers to grow the rights business
• Liaising with colleagues across Bloomsbury in Editorial (US, UK, Australia, and India), Production, Audio, Marketing and Publicity departments as well as the UK based foreign rights team
• Maintaining Biblio database for submissions, deals and contacts
• Managing and drawing up contracts
• Logging deals and liaising with finance
• Preparing for and attending book fairs: tasks include prepping rights guides, newsletters, collating sales material, follow up
• Helping to forecast and achieve budget for the team




Requirements: Qualifications

• Significant prior work experience in rights with an emphasis on UK and Commonwealth
• At least 5 years of experience in the publishing industry
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
• Good negotiation skills, and a strong sense of initiative and high level of professionalism
• Ability to work on deadline, have keen attention to detail, and demonstrate follow through
• Ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances in a highly collaborative environment
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite

Location: Location: Please note that, due to COVID-19, this position will be working from home until further notice. Candidates must reside in NY, NJ, CT, or PA and be able to commute to Bloomsbury USA’s New York City office full-time when the office re-opens. Flex time available.
