Title: Editing, Design, Production (EDP) Manager
Description: The EDP Manager is responsible for the copyediting, design and production activities of the NYU Press. They will ensure that each book published by the Press is professionally copyedited, indexed, designed and manufactured to the highest industry standards, and that they are published according to established schedules and budgets. The EDP Manager reviews each manuscript to confirm that authors have adhered to the Press's editorial guidelines, assigns manuscripts to a pool of freelance copyeditors, supervises their work, and acts as the liaison between the copyeditor, author and in-house editor throughout the course of the editing process. They will manage the in-house transmittal process and ensures that editors, production and design staff adhere to the deadlines necessary to guarantee that the books meet their desired delivery dates. The EDP Manager supervises a staff of 3 full-time and 1 part-time employee including the Production Manager, Art and Design Specialist and Production Editor.

Requirements: Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism or related field

Required Experience:
Minimum 5 years of publishing experience including managing the manuscript editorial process in book publishing. Demonstrated ability in managing departmental budgets, hiring, training and retaining staff. Deep knowledge of all technical aspects of Word and other major editing and production software as well as the technical aspects of digital editing workflow, and demonstrated ability to train and assist freelancers in the use of these systems. Thorough familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and other major style guides.

Preferred Experience:
7-10 years of experience in managing manuscript editing and production. Academic or university press publishing experience preferred. Familiarity with Scribe, a plus.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong organization, project, and staff management skills. Ability to manage, track and bring to completion a significant number of projects and tasks in an efficient, timely and cost-effective manner. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with departmental staff, colleagues, authors, freelancers and vendors. Interest in existing and emerging digital publishing technologies and changes in book production work flows. Knowledge of current computer programs as they relate to all aspects of EDP. Ability to use relational databases to generate reports needed for tracking and communicating book schedules and coordinating departmental work flows.
