About the internship
W. W. Norton is looking for interns to participate in our twelve-week internship program. Our internship program provides participants with an engaging, supportive, and hands-on learning experience in publishing that includes brown bag lunch sessions and networking within the intern class. Your work if you become a Norton intern with the Communication, the Norton Library, Philosophy, and Film team may include the following:
• Researching market data and assisting in plans for marketing outreach
• Maintaining lists and databases of key information such as digital content, marketing contacts, and book review programs
• Assisting in social media to create posts and curate copy for our audience
• Compiling materials and preparing manuscripts for reviews and production
• Collating, tabulating, and disseminating review responses
• Reading manuscripts, proposals, and proofs at various stages of publication to help editors and authors improve the quality of print and digital content
• Learning the basics of manuscript and proofs review
• Some textbooks in Philosophy, Film, and Communication titles an intern may work on include: The Norton Field Guide to Speaking, It’s Interpersonal, Understanding Cinema (First Edition), Looking at Movies, Engaging Cinema, The Norton Anthology of Drama, Think Again (First Edition), Doing Ethics, Critical Thinking to Change Your Life (First Edition).
• Some first-edition texts in the Norton Library an intern may work on include: The Pilgrim’s Progress, Up From Slavery, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Moby-Dick, Selected Tales of Gogol, Little Women.
Length of Internship: 12 weeks: 2/6/23-4/28/23, 20 hours per week

• You are a college junior, senior, or recent graduate.
• You are eager to improve your verbal and written communication skills.
• You enjoy collaborating and working in a group to solve challenges.
• You have a passion for learning and ideas.
• You are interested in learning about market research
• You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• You have a strong attention to detail
• You have a working knowledge of Adobe Reader

Internship details
• Interns are paid $15 per hour and work a maximum of 20 hours weekly.
• Internship period is twelve weeks from 2/6/23-4/28/23.
• Our workday is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time; specific work hours are flexible to accommodate an intern’s schedule.
• For interns who reside within commuting distance of the office, this internship will be in-person in our Manhattan offices; those in other locations will work remotely.
• Eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
