Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: The college division at W. W. Norton & Company is seeking an intern from January to April 2020 to assist with print and digital editorial projects in the Literature and Composition departments. The internship will offer insight into the editorial, marketing, and sales aspects of textbook publishing. Tasks will vary, but include:
• assisting with preparation of manuscripts for copyediting and review of page proofs in various stages
• assisting with preparation of electronic ancillary materials (InQuizitive, PowerPoints, etc.)
• cataloguing and organizing digital assets, including composition blog metadata and student sites
• researching market data (competing titles, course offerings, etc.) related to the literature and composition markets
• researching, brainstorming, and writing content for the Composition Twitter account
• organizing book review programs
• other day-to-day office duties (scanning, copying mailing, etc.)
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: Ideal candidates are detail-oriented and organized, able to work independently in an office environment, and interested in learning about college textbook publishing. Those with an interest in literature and composition are especially encouraged to apply. Experience working for a print or online publication and experience working in a writing center or as a writing tutor are preferred but not required. The candidate should be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, think critically, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
