Augsburg Fortress is the publishing unit of 1517 Media that serves Lutheran churches by creating resources to support worship and music, faith formation, and congregational life.

The Worship and Music team is seeking an intern who is ready to edit resources, support content development and compilation, manage projects, and grow as a professional. This intern will report to the Director of the Worship and Music team for this 12-week summer internship.

This paid position will offer valuable collaborative experiences with hands-on training, instructive feedback, and challenging projects that will provide a deeper understanding of the ministry of publishing and how it serves congregations in the ELCA.

The Augsburg Fortress Worship and Music Intern will be responsible for assisting with manuscript editing, as well as file preparation of annual print, electronic, and online worship planning resources. The intern will be a key contributor to assessing the accuracy and completeness of existing metadata for our two subscription worship planning sites: sundaysandseasons.com and preludemusicplanner.org. This intern will assist with editorial tasks related to regular site enhancement and maintenance.

In addition, this intern may also assist with the development and execution of team marketing tactics (emails, web store improvements, social media, etc.). The intern is an important part of the Worship and Music team, and will be expected to attend as many weekly team development/project management/ marketing meetings as possible, with respect to the internship programming schedule.


The Worship and Music team is seeking applicants with:
• A minimum of three years of college education
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects
• Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of the church year and Revised Common Lectionary
• Strong writing and proofreading skills for content and grammar
• Proven basic familiarity with Lutheran liturgy and theology
• Proven comfort working with online media and databases
• Demonstrable familiarity with social media sites
• The capacity to work with XML (helpful, but not required)
• Ability to read music (helpful)
• Knowledge of the ELCA and Lutheran heritage, organizational structures, and mission
• Indicated familiarity with other mainline Christian organizations (helpful)

1517 Media is a multimedia company comprised of four publishing units: Augsburg Fortress, Fortress Press, Sparkhouse, and Sparkhouse Family. We are the Publishing House of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and together we create books, Bibles, and videos that renew Christian life and community.

Length of Internship: 12 weeks in Summer
