Internship Detail

[Back to Internships]

Company Name: CREATIVE MEDIA AGENCY, INC.
Description: Are you looking for a dynamic internship and the chance to work closely with an agent whose interests you share on work that really matters? CMA interns often evaluate manuscript submissions, edit manuscripts and nonfiction book proposals, write pitch letters, communicate with authors and editors, and learn the ins and outs of publishing contracts.

Literary agent Paige Wheeler is looking for interns who love to read and evaluate commercial fiction, particularly romances, crime fiction (mysteries/suspense), and women’s fiction, as well as some practical nonfiction. The intern should be knowledgeable about what’s selling successfully in the market, have strong Microsoft Office and Outlook skills (Word, Excel, vCards, etc.), and be a self-starter. Ideal interns will be interested in both the business and editorial side of publishing, be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook), be proficient at researching and writing, and have a keen editorial eye.

CMA is happy to offer both remote internships as well as traditional in-office internships. We are located in the Richmond, VA area—transportation to a home office is necessary for in-office interns. There will be one mandatory staff meeting twice a month via conference call. We require a minimum of 16 hours each week. Although we are flexible, we look for a full semester commitment; our spring internship will run from approximately January 1st to May 18th.

Our internships are unpaid, but we are happy to work with students to ensure that they receive credit from their schools (we do not require interns to receive credit).

If you are ready to apply, please submit the following materials to both paige@cmalit.com and ana.maria@cmalit.com with the subject ‘Spring 2018 Internship’ or through your university’s internship website:

1. A 1-page cover letter (include publishing or office experience, availability and location during the semester, technical/computer-related skills, genre or position-interest)
2. Your resume
3. A list of the last 3 books you’ve read, as well as your favorite 3 books
