Company Name: W. W. NORTON & COMPANY
Description: W. W. Norton, the largest and oldest publishing house owned wholly by its employees, is looking for a rising or current junior or senior to intern in its trade managing editorial department, starting in June 2017. This paid internship will provide hands-on experience working on books in a variety of ways—from proofreading and copyediting to putting a manuscript together; transcribing author and proofreader changes; and checking proofs, blues, and miscellaneous parts of a book. The intern will spend ample time working alongside project editors on a wide range of hardcover, paperback, and digital titles. Additionally, Norton interns have the chance to learn about the company as a whole in weekly brown bag lunches with employees from Norton’s other departments, and may choose to attend the seasonal sales conference.
Length of Internship: 3 months, 20 hours per week
Requirements: The ideal applicant has an observant eye for detail and takes pleasure in the revision process. Some basic experience with proofreading is a necessity—a proofreading test will be provided. Applicants should also have strong organizational and communication skills. Specific work hours are flexible, but interns typically work three or four days a week for three months for up to 20 hours per week.
Location: New York, NY Our office is located in the heart of Midtown, on Fifth Avenue, across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park, and within two blocks of the Theater District and Times Square.
Payment: $11/hour
